Government of Cabo Delgado Province empowered in land management and administration, and law enforcement on land and other natural resources

The Centro Terra Viva (CTV), held on the 30th and 31st of May, in Cabo Delgado Province, a training seminar for permanent secretaries and district technicians of Land Register, Infrastructure, Environment, Land and Forests areas. The referred seminar was attended by 16 civil servants, including four permanent secretaries and twelve technicians of Ancuabe, Balama, Palma and Namuno districts.

The seminar expounded on matters of land management and administration and law enforcement on land and other natural resources. The main objective of the seminar was to spread systematic knowledge about the environmental legislation in force in the country, at district level, in order to improve interventions in land management and administration, including the environment.

During the two days of training, it was possible to obtain knowledge, from various experts, about the principles and rules of environmental management, discuss and clarify the role of district technicians in environmental management and land administration, and to recognize the practical procedures of the community consultation process under the acquisition of the Right to Use and Benefit from the Land (DUAT).

The trainees regretted the low level of knowledge of the legislation, by local communities, and the governments failure in disclosing the laws of the country. It was mentioned that the technicians acknowledge the fact that there is a need to strictly follow the legal recommendations regarding public consultations, public administration (good governance) and land administration and management.

As a result of this action, it is expected that the technicians have acquired a vast knowledge, in the subjects presented in the seminar, and that they can improve their interventions in their own districts.
